Roman S. Sims, 79, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, in Kindred Hospital Northern Indiana, Mishawaka.
Roman was born September 9, 1933 in South Bend, the son of the late Walter and Esther (Kajzer) Sobieralski. He grew up in South Bend where he graduated from South Bend Central Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War.
On November 23, 1975, Roman married Ruth Ann Weinkauf. They made Mishawaka their home.
Roman was a Mechanical Engineer and retired from Jackson Engineering. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka and was a daily communicant at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Roman belonged to the Z.B. Falcons in South Bend. He recently became a member of Cursillo. Roman was faithful about visiting the sick. He was an avid golfer with his best friend, Joseph.
Roman’s surviving family includes his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Linda (George) Tritsch of Maryland; a grandson, Michael Tritsch of Maryland; a step daughter, Caroline Boynton of Colorado; and a step son, Kim Anthony Colt of Mishawaka. Roman is lovingly remembered as a friend to many.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Lucille Sobieralski; and a son-in-law, Carl Boynton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 20, at 10:30 am in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, with Monsignor Bruce Piechocki officiating.
Roman’s family will receive friends Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 am in the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Monica Parish or St. Joseph Parish. Envelopes will be available Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are in the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, Mishawaka.
