Serena M. Bobson, 84, of Mishawaka, passed away June 23, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Serena was born May 1, 1938 in Dowagiac, Michigan, to the late Raymond and Juanita (Kohler) Townsend. She spent most of her years growing up in Dowagiac and moved to the South Bend area as a teenager where she graduated from Riley High School. She went to work for a few years at Bendix.

Serena married Robert D. Bobson on January 24, 1958 at St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka. The couple made Mishawaka their home.

Over the years Serena’s employment included working for Dr. Lee Smith, OD, was a crossing guard stationed at Hums Elementary School and she also worked at Sears.

Serena loved sewing and was a talented seamstress and made many garments and clothing items over the years. She also enjoyed quilting. Serena was an excellent cook and baker and is remembered for the many Christmas cookies she made. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A favorite family memory is Serena baking cookies with her grandchildren.

Serena’s surviving family includes her children, Robert “Bob” D. (Barb) Bobson, Jr., of South Bend and Judith “Judy” A. (Gary) Savill of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Samantha (Andy) Smith, Katelynn (Ben) Halbig, Tommy Bobson and Kathy Bobson; four great grandchildren, Rhett, Hadley, Blakeslee and Wyatt; and two sisters, Loretta Lanham of South Bend and Carol Kuss of Mishawaka.

Serena was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, Sr. in 2017; and four brothers, Billy, John R., Rob and Richard Townsend.

Following Serena’s wishes, a Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 1, at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.

Arrangements are under the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, Mishawaka.
