Shirley Ann Labis, 68, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015, in her home.
Shirley was born May 2, 1946 in South Bend, the daughter of the late Anthony and Gizella (Racz) Boros. She grew up in South Bend and graduated from Our Lady of Hungary Grade School and St. Joseph High School.
On June 16, 1979, Shirley married Gregory Labis in St. Jude Catholic Church. They made South Bend their home.
For 22 years Shirley was a Police Officer with the St. Joseph County Police Department. After retirement she worked at the Federal Court House in South Bend.
Shirley was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Joseph County Republican Women serving on their Board of Directors and was awarded Republican Woman of the Year. Shirley was a retired member of F.O.P #155. She enjoyed time spent at Webster Lake near North Webster. She also loved shopping, particularly grocery shopping.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 35 years, Greg; a son, Ryan Labis and his wife Amy of Michigan City; a brother, Tony Boros and his wife Sandy who was Shirley’s best friend of Pierceton; and the light of Shirley’s life her granddaughter, Hillary Labis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, January 22, in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, with Rev. Charles Herman officiating. Private burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery.
Shirley’s family will receive friends from 10 - 11 am Thursday in the church.
