Sister M. Raphael Kochert, O.S.F.

Sister M. Raphael (Veronica Elizabeth) Kochert died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Sister Raphael entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in 1953. She received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in elementary education from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, and taught for twenty years. After leaving the classroom, she received certification as a Catholic Chaplain, which enabled her to have a second career as a hospital chaplain for another twenty-five years, most recently at Franciscan Health Lafayette.
Sister Raphael was preceded in death by her father, Herman Jansen; her mother Emma Jansen Kochert; her adoptive father, Vincent Kochert; and her brother, Dennis.
She is survived by her sister Patricia Brown; and four brothers, George (Cheri), Mike (Phyllis), Dick (Judy) and Frank (Carolyn).
A wake will be held at St. Francis Convent, Mishawaka, from 5 – 7 pm EST on Thursday, January 3 and two hours prior to the funeral on Friday. The Eucharistic funeral liturgy for Sister M. Raphael will be Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11 am EST at St. Francis Convent, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.
