Ted Szalewski

Ted Szalewski, 64, of Mishawaka, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at his home following a long illness.

Ted was born November 25, 1956 in South Bend. He grew up in Mishawaka and lived most of his adult life in his home on the St. Joseph River, Mishawaka.

Ted was employed for 30 years in commercial construction with Verkler Construction and was a member of Laborer’s Local #645. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, boating, beaches and was a Chicago Bears fan. He dearly loved his dogs, Buster, Buddy and Bailey T.

Ted married Linda J. Hoerstman on January 16, 1993 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church and his beloved Linda survives. Also surviving are his mother, Loretta Micek; brother, Mark (Mel) Osborn; sister, Tracy Osborn; father-in-law, A.J. Hoerstman; Linda’s siblings, Ann Doyle, Mark (Angie) Hoerstman, Mary Guyer, Rita (Matt) Weiss and Karen (Dave) Zigon; and many nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Szalewski; step father, Walter “Howd” Osborn, sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Szalewski; mother-in-law, Joan Hoerstman; and brother-in-law, Jim Hoerstman.

Linda would like to give special thanks to Ted’s family doctor, Dr. John Bulger and staff; his dentist, Dr. Brian Coulter & staff; Dr. Sahoo from Cleveland Clinic; nurses, Kimberly Torma and Colin; and friends who helped with moral support over the many years of Ted’s illness.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, December 17, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Face coverings are required at the funeral home.

Private family services will be held Friday, December 18, in the funeral home with Rev. John Eze officiating. The service will be available to view by the ZOOM app, go to “join a meeting” and use Meeting ID 5742551519. The service will begin at 1:00 pm so you should join in by 12:50 pm.
