Tesla L. Lundry, 90, of South Bend, passed away Thursday morning in Tanglewood Trace Assisted Living, Mishawaka.
Tesla was born February 1, 1925 in South Bend the son of the late Tesla and Elizabeth (Kaufmann) Lundry. He grew up in Mishawaka and lived many years in South Bend.
Tesla served his country in the US Navy on The Sullivans during World War II. He also served during the Korean War.
On September 7, 1946, Tesla married Ruth E. Geisler. She preceded him in death in 2006.
In his younger days, Tesla taught Tool & Die Design and Mathematics at Acme School of Engineering. He retired from Bendix after 30 years as a Tool & Die Designer.
Tesla was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #303 in South Bend and also belonged to 40 & 8 with the American Legion. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #45 for over 50 years. Tesla enjoyed woodworking, flower gardening, and traveling to all 50 states. He also loved bull dogs and cats.
Tesla surviving family includes his two children, Daniel Lundry of South Bend and Vicki (Ed) Kurzhal of Granger; three grandchildren, Kimberly Brunner, Steven (Kristi) Kurzhal and D. Erik (Becky) Lundry; three great grandchildren, Kayla Brunner, Bryce Lundry and Aubree Lundry; and a sister, Dorothy Meixel.
Besides his wife, Ruth; Tesla was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Shafer.
Services honoring Tesla’s life will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at 10 am in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Warren Kirkwood officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Military honors will be provided by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Friends may spend time with Tesla’s family Monday, May 11, 2015, from 6 - 8 pm in the funeral home.
