Violet “Vi” DeVolder, 84, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011, in her home following a long illness.

Vi was born November 13, 1926 in South Bend, a daughter of the late Marko and Janya Pokrajac. She grew up in South Bend and was a graduate of Riley High School.

On September 4, 1948, Vi married Marcel “Red” DeVolder. The couple made Mishawaka their home.

Vi retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance in Mishawaka after 15 years of employment. She was a member of VFW #360 Auxiliary. Violet and Red traveled extensively and some of their destinations included Belgium and China and they enjoyed several cruises. She loved socializing with her friends and was a good baker.

Vi’s surviving family includes her daughter, Nancy J. (Ron) Sanders of LaPorte; a granddaughter, Erin J. Sanders; and Vi’s caregiver and friend, Sandra Healey.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Red, in 2005.

Following Vi’s wishes, a private family burial has taken place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in South Bend.

Arrangements were in the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
